Meet the Founders

Kim Murphy has lived in the Atlanta area for the past 19 years and has been involved with animal rescue since the early 1990’s. Six years ago, Kim and her husband, Gary, left the suburbs to purchase a modest home on 15 acres in NW Georgia. This has allowed them to better dedicate their time to saving abandoned and unwanted dogs from Georgia’s high-kill shelters. Kim has always had a passion for the “underdog”, focusing much of her time and energy on helping the unadoptable become adoptable so that they can find their forever homes. Kim is a true advocate for animals and is passionate that the solution to the pet overpopulation problem is 100% spay and neuter.Kim works as a Human Resources professional and also has a passion for education. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

Sara Garrett moved to Atlanta in 2005 after spending five years post-college working as a retail buyer in Washington, DC. Since moving south, she has continued to work in the retail industry and currently works in wholesale sales for Carter’s, Inc.Though her family had rescued a dog from a no-kill shelter in California while she was in college, Sara adopted her own first rescue, Kyra, in her early twenties and better understood the importance of rescuing and re-homing homeless animals, as well as advocating for spay/neuter laws . After moving to Atlanta, Sara began fostering for a local rescue and found her true passion. Like Tabitha, she has added “foster failure” to her resume and is looking forward to working with Tabitha and Kim to save adoptable dogs from the high-kill shelters of Georgia and finding them forever homes.

Tabitha McCoy moved to Atlanta in 1996 after graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Accounting. She and her husband, Mike, were married in 2001 and adopted their first rescue dog, Oscar. Three years later they added another rescue, Rookie, to their family. Tabitha spent 8 years in public accounting before leaving to become the Director of Tax at an S&P 500 company.

After the birth of her third child, Tabitha decided to leave the workforce and become a full time mom. In that time she came to foster dogs on a regular basis for a local rescue group, discovering a new passion. In 2011, she and her husband added “foster failures” to their resume with the adoption of their most recent foster, Faith. Tabitha now spends her time caring for her three children and three furkids while working diligently to facilitate the rescue of homeless dogs in north Georgia. Tabitha maintains an active CPA license and is responsible for all aspects of You Lucky Dog Rescue’s finances.
